DESCRIPTION OF BUSINESS ACTIVITIES
Edmonia ICT Solutions is the parent company of TIBEB Enterprise Learning Platform. TIBEB means “Wisdom” in the local language; it’s a platform whereby various personal and professional skill development courses are delivered through.
There are eight-course categories: Law, Leadership, Management, Technology, Fashion, Health and Language. The courses are delivered in international as well as local languages i.e. Amharic, Affan Oromo, and Tigrigna.
KEY CHALLENGES
The company’s main challenge is that there is only one internet service provider, Ethiotelecom. As internet is the backbone of their service, the lack of consistency in the Ethiotelecom service i.e. network disruption and shutdown is a challenge, but they are hopeful this will improve the coming months considering the fact the government is seeking to improve this sector.
SOCIAL IMPACT
One key contribution we make, is that given participant don’t have to travel to attend class and can learn online, it has enabled them to undertake additional training that can enhance their income generation potential. Access to online training has assisted trainees to manage their time properly, instead of wasting hours waiting for public transportation to take them to class from their homes or from work. Some trainees used their phone to access the training even during midnight and weekends, thereby eliminating time-based training schedules.
One of the training programs Edmonia provided was for Addis Ababa University was an online course titled, “Basic Introduction to Computer”, the training addresses what a computer does, the difference between software and hardware, Microsoft Windows Operating System, Microsoft word 2010, Microsoft Excel 2010, Microsoft Powerpoint 2010, Microsoft Publisher 2010 and how to create and use an email account.
Some of the trainees above previously don’t know how to use operating system and email properly, after our training they developed basic computer competency that is essential for youth in academia and those seeking to join the workforce
In addition, we are working on gender inequality in Ethiopia. Women in our society are not beneficiaries of the country’s economic growth, particularly in education and employment opportunities. They don’t receive the necessary skill development training they require. As a result, we make our courses available at a lower price for our female trainees than their male counterparts.
FUTURE EXPANSION PLAN
In the future, we intend to develop applications and fully utilize cloud services. We are also planning to open regional offices in different parts of the country.
